New York Nostalgia
I came across a cache of old photos from this trip to New York ten years ago to this day, so I thought I’d take a short break from the culinary tales and take a little trip down memory lane.
I went to New York to attend the wedding of one of my college besties. The wedding was actually held in Connecticut, and I had less than a day to wander around the city.
I believe I am a master of the power-tripping, because in fewer than six hours, I managed to check out Ground Zero (sobering), the Cloisters on the North end of Manhattan (dreamy), Washington Square (entertaining for the people watching) and city pier (also fun people-watching) before revisiting some old favorites: Tribeca (always fun), Brooklyn (always interesting) and Times Square (always mildly annoying).
When I had exhausted my list of cool places to see, I camped out at the New York Library so I could finish reading “The Da Vinci Code.” (I started to read it during the flight out. BIG mistake when flying a red-eye.) The cool quiet of the library was a welcome respite from the big loud city that was baking in a muggy springtime heat. And it occurred to me, that despite all the noise from the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, there are plenty of places to get away and enjoy some silence.
